Therapy for me encompasses three key values: connecting with people, working creatively, and discussing life philosophically.
I came to therapy through my own trauma, coping mechanisms and journey of self-acceptance. I know first hand how difficult it can be to take that first step. When we feel that we 'should' be able to cope and manage by ourselves. Often denying or minimising our feelings and experiences.
Often people come to therapy thinking that there is something 'wrong' with them or are looking for therapy to 'cure' them. But this isn't how I believe therapy works. Therapy isn't about how we can change who we are but how we can come to accept who we are and understand what we experience.
Therapy has evolved from the days where you would expect, a very silent aloof professional nodding and making soothing noises. I see myself as a therapist who is a collaborator; a present, active and engaged participant in your process.
Together we will work to bring greater self-awareness to what is troubling you and what aspects of your life you are wanting to address and change. Offering my own thoughts, feelings and observations to help make connections between present difficulties and past experiences.
